This semester, I have been and will be examining in depth single mothers with bastard children in England in the 1700s. For this research, I have been primarily been using the London Lives website to gather information. Not only does it have brief biographies of people, but it also has access to the Old Bailey website. Society in England in the 1700s really looked down on single mothers. So many women were judged and had to take extreme measures just to take care of their children and themselves.
