My topic is Controversial Abolitionist literature. I will be using the Library of Congress' American Memory collection, specifically Slaves and Courts 1740-1860.
What are you going to be looking at within the topic of controversial abolitionist literature? How it was suppressed? How it was distributed? How it was used? All of those - and more - could make for really interesting papers, but you should probably narrow down a question or two you want to examine to narrow down what sources will be useful :)
I will be looking at the treatment of the abolitionists and also the use of the literature. I do like the question of how it was suppressed, so I may renegotiate the topic to include that. I agree that the topic of Controversial Abolitionist literature is too broad, so your suggestion to narrow it down is helpful.
